In the Sanctuary

Peninnah had set about decorating some for Christmas. She had found a small nativity that seemed to be hand carved. She set it out in the sanctuary with a line of pine boughs. It was as festive as she got because Peninnah had yet to be exposed to the commercial side of Christmas. For her it was still a solemn holiday. She also tended to replacing the candles throughout, refilling lamps and all the other duties that needed work.
When satisfied she made cocoa. Since she had been introduced to food cocoa had become one of her favorite things. With a hot mug of chocolate she returned to the sanctuary and took up the knitting she had been working on. She sighed at the mess. Without being able to read the text in the book she had learning was difficult. The diagrams seemed to be missing crucial information but still she tried. It was her way of relaxing when all her tasks were through and there was no one at the church in need of her.
She took a sip of her cocoa and pulled the book into her lap as she once more attempted the stitch she was working on.
